In the entrepreneurial world, success is rarely a solo endeavor. It's about the connections we make, the relationships we nurture, and the collaborative efforts that drive innovation and adaptability. So, in your opinion, what role does networking play in the continuous evolution and adaptability of an entrepreneur?

Networking plays a huge role because it helps with outreach. Meeting new people, gaining new followers or even sharing your story can broaden your audience. It helps you evolve through conversations both socially online/ in person. You have to be adaptable and willing to change as an entrepreneur.

Before we dive into the specifics, could you share a bit about your background and the experiences that have shaped your path in entrepreneurship?

I have been in the food service industry so over 10 years! I have been in business since 2019 with my bakery called Cake Baby. Being an entrepreneur has its ups and downs with it comes to food service. Yes everybody needs sweets in their life but are you the sweets person for them! I have experienced more downs than ups which is why I’m always trying to come up with new ideas to help boost my business. It’s hard to stay consistent when you don’t know what you are doing wrong exactly. Marketing is always hard and marketing is what makes or breaks your business.

What steps have you taken to amplify underrepresented voices within your industry or community?

There will always be people who doubt your passion or doubt your outcome. I just always try to think positive and not let it get to me! You can’t like everything people say! Not everyone is for your business also! I learned that the hard way. Just because somebody buys your product, doesn’t mean you will see them again. Your product isn’t for everyone.

Can you share a pivotal moment that defined your entrepreneurial journey?

A pivotal moment in my journey would be when I was recently gifted an award for “champion of empowerment” award. I was gifted this award because I started my store front peak of Covid and have been open ever since!

Reflecting on your journey, what unexpected challenges have you encountered, and how did you navigate them?

Recently I found out I have to close down my store front because our revenue isn’t where we need it to be to stay open. We been open for a little over two years and the last year, it’s been very hard to for sour revenue. Foot traffic has died down a lot and we are also inside a mall. I have learned a bakery shouldn’t be inside a mall but we all live and we learn.

What practical tips or strategies have you found most effective in overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals?

Some tips or strategies that help would be always pray! Always have confidence in yourself and your work. Never think negative about what you do. Bad thoughts do come true if you speaking them out loud. Affirmations work wonders!

How do you manage stress and maintain focus during challenging periods in your entrepreneurial journey?

I manage stress by taking deep breaths and praying. I try not to stress because everything is in gods hands and whatever he has planned for you is up to him not you. So why stress over something that he planned for you! Find the reason why you think he put you through that or simply ask god why he put you through that. I maintain focus by not overthinking any situation and go with the flow. Take everybody day by day or moment by moment.

How do you leverage your network to stay informed about industry trends and opportunities?

Social media is a big role in every one businesses at the moment. I follow big time bakers or bakers that give our good knowledge about how to run a bakery.

How do you balance risk-taking with calculated decision-making to navigate uncertainties in your industry?

Risk taking is always needed because you will learn some thing you don’t know. Decision making is challenging because you don’t know if you made the right decision to move forward or will it be the right decision. Both you live and you learn.

Can you share a time when a failure or mistake turned into a valuable learning experience for you as an entrepreneur?

This is my first time opening a store front and I learned just because your business has money doesn’t mean it’s your money. Although I wasn’t getting a regular pay because business was slow, I would still use the business money to buy something for personal use. I learned from this that it will put you in a hole faster than not having any customers come through your doors. I will never again use business money for personal use.
